Hot Topic: Ultherapy
Expanding your treatment menu with innovative and effective treatments is a great way to attract and retain new patients.
One such treatment is Ultherapy, a non-invasive procedure that uses micro-focused ultrasound to lift and tighten the skin. This technology targets deeper layers of the skin without affecting the surface, promoting natural collagen production and offering long-lasting results.
What Makes Ultherapy Stand Out?
Ultherapy isn’t your typical skin-tightening treatment. It’s TGA & FDA-cleared and clinically proven to be safe and effective for lifting the eyebrows, neck, and under-chin area, and smoothing lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
Its unique ability to use ultrasound energy sets it apart from other modalities, as it allows practitioners to visualise the anatomy layers through real-time imaging and deliver targeted energy to where it will be most beneficial.
By creating thermal coagulation points at precise depths, Ultherapy triggers an inflammatory response that jump-starts new collagen production. This results in firmer, tighter skin and a refreshed, youthful appearance - without the downtime or invasiveness.

Why Ultherapy is a Smart Business Move for Clinics
By expanding your service offerings with Ultherapy, you’re not just adding another treatment - you’re offering patients a solution that complements their existing aesthetic plans.
When combined with cosmetic injectables, Ultherapy offers patients a more complete facial rejuvenation experience. While fillers and toxins work to address fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss, Ultherapy targets deeper layers of the skin to lift and tighten. The result is a comprehensive treatment plan that not only smooths and plumps the skin but also enhances its structural support.
Patients who are already receiving injectable treatments can benefit from the long-term skin tightening that Ultherapy provides, helping to also prolong the effects of their injectables.
With low overhead and minimal consumables, Ultherapy has a high-profit margin, making it a worthwhile investment. It’s also a treatment that attracts new clients while enticing existing ones to try something new.

Hot Topic: Managing Patient Expectations

The content of this blog is designed and intended for the education of Healthcare Professionals
Patient satisfaction relies on more than just the treatment outcome—it results from clear communication, education, and realistic expectations the practitioner sets. Whether you're using anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, or collagen-stimulating treatments, managing expectations is key to ensuring a positive experience for both the patient and the practitioner.
Thorough Consultations
The consultation allows you to build rapport and educate your patient about the procedure. Understanding their aesthetic goals and assessing their medical history and skin condition is crucial. This initial conversation sets the tone for the entire treatment journey, allowing you to explain what can be realistically achieved and addressing any misconceptions they might have.
During this time, leverage your visual aids such as before-and-after photos, diagrams, or even digital simulations to illustrate potential results. This can help bridge the gap between the patient’s expectations and what’s achievable based on their unique facial anatomy and skin condition. Make sure to discuss any limitations of the chosen treatment, whether it's due to skin elasticity, facial structure, or the nature of the product itself.
Setting Realistic Goals
One of the most common reasons for patient dissatisfaction is unrealistic expectations. While some patients may have a clear idea of their desired outcome, others may be influenced by filtered social media photos or celebrity looks. As a practitioner, it’s important to guide patients toward achievable goals that complement their natural features. This may involve being honest about what the product can and cannot do.
Doing so not only protects your professional reputation but also establishes trust and respect in your patient-nurse relationship.
The Post-Treatment Timeline
Many patients expect instant results, especially with aesthetic treatments. However, it’s important to emphasise that immediate results may not reflect the final outcome. Temporary side effects such as swelling and bruising are common and can obscure the true effect of the treatment. Make sure your patients understand that it may take a few days or even weeks for the full results to settle in.

For example, after dermal filler treatment, swelling can make the lips appear fuller than expected initially, but this is not indicative of the final look. Similarly, with tear trough fillers, swelling and dark circles may persist for up to a week before the final results become visible.
Setting this timeline early on helps manage their expectations and reduces the likelihood of premature dissatisfaction.
Managing Social Media Expectations
With the use of social media and photo-editing apps, many patients come in with expectations based on highly edited or unrealistic images. This can lead to a disconnect between what they desire and what is achievable. As their cosmetic nurse, it’s essential to have open conversations about the influence of social media on beauty standards.
Educate them about the importance of maintaining facial harmony and how subtle adjustments can enhance their features without looking overdone. By aligning expectations with achievable results, you help patients feel more satisfied with the outcome.
Creating a Treatment Plan
Every patient is unique, and so should their treatment plan. During the consultation, create a treatment roadmap that outlines all the steps required to achieve and maintain their desired look over time. This plan can include information on the frequency of follow-up treatments, and maintenance sessions.
Aftercare
Educating patients about post-treatment care is important for achieving long-lasting results. Provide them with detailed instructions on how to care for their skin post-treatment, and monitoring for any adverse reactions. Clear aftercare guidance minimises complications and ensures that patients are proactive in their recovery.

Hot Topic: Menopause
Menopause is finally becoming the hot topic it deserves to be, as more women seek support during this stage of life. Yet, it remains under-discussed in many professional settings, especially within the aesthetics industry.
Menopause often brings a range of physical and emotional changes due to hormonal fluctuations, impacting not only mood and energy levels but also skin health. Symptoms like dryness, loss of elasticity, pigmentation, and sensitivity are common during perimenopause and menopause, making it essential for practitioners to understand the unique needs of this demographic.

Member Spotlight: TB Cosmetics
This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Tayla, founder of TB Cosmetics.
With a passion for aesthetics and a heart for helping others, Tayla’s journey to owning her own business is inspiring - and she's here to tell us why it's anything but superficial.
What began as a dream has turned into a thriving business. "I started working at a skin clinic, and then I decided it was time to do my own thing," Tayla shared.
Tayla’s love for the aesthetic industry has always been strong, but she didn’t initially see it as a career path. “I’ve always loved cosmetics. It’s always been a dream of mine, I just never thought I’d actually do it,” she said.

Tayla started TB Cosmetics a few years ago and never looked back. “I started my own business… and I love it. It’s the best job. I feel so grateful that I can be my own boss and do a job that I love while making people feel good every day,” Tayla said with enthusiasm.
Tayla’s business, TB Cosmetics, specialises in non-surgical cosmetic treatments, with a focus on facial harmony, skin rejuvenation, and fat reduction. TB Cosmetics offers complimentary consultations where Tayla creates personalised treatment plans for her clients.
Tayla’s approach emphasises a natural aesthetic, ensuring her clients not only look their best but also feel confident in their skin. Education is a key part of her business, as she helps patients achieve their skincare goals while understanding the treatments they receive.
One of the most surprising aspects of the industry for Tayla was how much it impacts people emotionally. “When I first started this job, I thought it was quite superficial. Then I started working in the industry and was shocked at how not superficial it is,” she explains. “It’s so nice to make people feel so good about themselves, and it’s not about how they look on the outside - it’s about how they feel on the inside.”
Why Fresh Clinics?
A proud member of the Fresh Clinics community, Tayla has been with Fresh for five years, and she can’t imagine working with anyone else. “I work for myself, but I also feel like I’m part of such a big community with Fresh Clinics. They supply so many training opportunities, they have so much education, and they’re always there for you.” she said.
For those thinking about entering the cosmetic industry, Tayla’s advice is simple: just do it. “Just get started and do it - you won’t look back,” she encouraged.
She also highlights the importance of having support, which is why she’s such a strong advocate for joining Fresh Clinics. “I highly recommend joining Fresh because they are here to support you, train you, and help you with your business.”
Tayla’s story is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with determination, passion, and the right support. We are proud to feature her this month and look forward to seeing TB Cosmetics continue to thrive and make a positive impact on many.

Introducing Evolus: A New Era in Aesthetics
-2.png)
The content of this blog is designed and intended for the education of Healthcare Professionals
The latest toxin taking the world by storm has arrived in Australia - and Fresh Clinics is the first to access it for their Members.
Meet Evolus, not only the newest toxin in 10 years, but a visionary in performance beauty, challenging conventions, and inspiring transformation. Evolus began its journey back in 2013. After rigorous clinical trials involving over 2,100 patients, their efforts culminated in approval in the US, Canada, and Europe. By 2023, the product earned approval from the TGA in Australia.
Unlike traditional pharmaceutical companies, Evolus is dedicated to creating innovative products for medical aesthetics clinicians. As part of their global expansion, they have launched Nuceiva® (prabotulinumtoxinA) in Australia, adding to their successful presence in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Fresh Clinics recently hosted the much-anticipated Evolus launch, exclusive to Fresh Members. We put together a recap of the event, and how this latest toxin is about to transform the landscape of aesthetic treatments.
Dr John Delaney, calling in live from Fresh Clinics headquarters in North Sydney, encapsulated the significance of the launch perfectly: "What’s pretty remarkable about this session is it’s all coming to you live from Fresh Clinics.” This marked the first live product demonstration at our HQ.

Evolus isn’t your regular pharmaceutical company; it's a performance beauty company dedicated exclusively to medical aesthetics, striving to evolve the future of beauty. Daniel Henry, General Manager for Evolus Australia, highlighted the ethos behind the company: "We are Evolus, where artistry meets science. We are a movement against the ordinary."
Clinical Data
Dr David Eccleston, calling in from the UK shared insightful clinical data, emphasising the success behind the development of this product. The large-scale trials demonstrated that Nuceiva® could stand toe-to-toe with market toxin leaders... “87% of subjects achieved the target of at least one improvement at day 30 compared to 83% of subjects in the competitor's group,” Dr Eccleston shared, underlining the product’s efficacy.
Key points also included:
- Immunogenicity: Nuceiva® showed 0 cases of neutralising antibodies, unlike many of its competitors
- Patient Satisfaction: Feedback from patients was overwhelmingly positive, with many noting quicker onset and longer duration of results, coupled with a more natural look
Hands-On Demonstration
Amber Pappas, Director of Medical Affairs at Evolus, treated us to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Evolus Bus in Denver. This innovative setup includes anatomy labs, silicone simulations, and educational events for medical professionals. Amber provided detailed demonstrations of injection techniques with Nucevia®, using their advanced tools and model.

Our very own Dr John Holbrook performed a live demo from Fresh Clinics HQ, explaining the procedure and best practices. He emphasised the importance of delivering toxin where the muscles are, ensuring effective and safe results for patients.
Evolus CEO David Moatazedi summed up the company’s approach: "We saw an opportunity to create a company that operates differently. We're dedicated to cash pay, we're digitally powered and forward-thinking. And we have a modern edgy brand made with the 900 kDa (Kilodalton) molecule." This commitment to innovation and patient satisfaction is what sets Evolus apart.
In today’s competitive market, Evolus stands out with its innovative approach and commitment to patient satisfaction. Their investment in cutting-edge technology and high-purity processes ensures that their products are not just effective but also safe. For clinicians and patients alike, Evolus' entry into the Australian market promises a new standard in aesthetic treatments.

Reflecting on The Fresh Life 2023: One Year On
As we look back on the incredible experience that was The Fresh Life 2023, it's hard to believe a year has already passed.
We're preparing for The Fresh Life 2024, and we can’t help but reminisce on last year’s conference.
This unique conference, famed for its departure from traditional formats, offered a blend of outdoor activities, wellness, and education in Byron Bay.
Held at the picturesque Crystalbrook, the venue alone set the tone for a refreshing and immersive educational event. The lush rainforests and proximity to the beach made it feel like a mini-retreat. Large tipi tents filled with rattan furniture and outdoor rugs created a relaxed, Bali-like atmosphere where attendees could network and learn from KOLs.
The conference featured two expansive stages, hosting presentations from top-tier injectors, marketing gurus, and motivational speakers. Yemi Penn's keynote on embracing possibilities was truly inspiring, while Dr Steven Liew's comparison of human treatment to AI technology sparked fascinating discussions about the future of cosmetic procedures.
Notable speakers like Dr Bob Khanna provided valuable insights into anatomy-based injection techniques, and sessions from Suzie Hoitink, and Sam Peek equipped delegates with entrepreneurial and professional growth strategies.
Another highlight was the 'Freshchella' Finale, a Coachella-themed event. With festival outfits, live music, and activities, it was an unforgettable evening that blended fun with professional networking.

Looking back, The Fresh Life 2023 was more than just a conference - it was a retreat, a place to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and walk away with invaluable skills to take back to your clinics.
We can't wait to see what The Fresh Life 2024 has in store...

The Future of Wound Healing in Aesthetics
Imagine a world where skin rejuvenates faster and wounds heal with minimal scarring.
Introducing TR Pro+; a hydrogel formulation that is changing the game in tissue repair. This isn't just another skincare product; it’s a scientifically formulated to accelerate healing, enhance skin protection, and optimise cosmetic and medical procedure outcomes.
Tissue Repair, an Australian company founded in 2015, has been making waves in medical aesthetics with its product TR Pro+. The product’s key active ingredient is beta-glucan, derived from everyday baker’s yeast. Over two decades of rigorous scientific research has gone into its ability to modulate the immune response, therefore promoting faster and healthier skin healing.

The Science: Beta-Glucan
Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide found in the cell walls of yeast, algae, bacteria, and certain grains like oats and barley. The beta-glucan used in TR Pro Plus is extracted from baker’s yeast and formulated into a hydrogel. It's a large molecule beta-glucan that penetrates the skin's epidermis and reaches the dermis, where it activates immune cells known as macrophages.
Macrophages are essentially the body’s guard cells. These immune cells recognise the beta-glucan and become activated, producing growth factors and cytokines which aid in skin healing. Unlike smaller beta-glucans, TR Pro Plus maintains its large structure, ensuring effective activation of the product.
"The cooling sensation the hydrogel gives really takes the edge off the pain during treatments like needling. It’s incredibly soothing." - Nurse Charlotte, Tissue Repair.
Beta-glucan has shown promise in closing venous leg ulcers, as evidenced by two phase-two FDA studies. These studies highlighted the gel’s ability to close chronic wounds more effectively than placebo treatments. Currently, the product is undergoing phase-three clinical trials in both Australia and the U.S., aiming to treat 600 patients across these regions.
"We received TGA approval about a month ago, and this endorsement allows us to now reach out broadly to consumers.” - Dr Daryl Reed, Tissue Repair.
Real Results
The product has been a lifesaver for patients dealing with conditions like eczema and post-surgical wounds. For instance, in skin cancer excision cases, patients reported accelerated healing with minimal inflammation when TR Pro+ was applied immediately post-procedure.
Aesthetic Procedures
TR Pro+ is designed not only for wounds but also for aesthetic procedures. Think laser resurfacing, biopsies, injectables and skin needling. “TR Pro Plus is increasingly becoming the go-to post-procedure solution. Charlotte shares, “You can use TR Pro Plus anywhere there is trauma to the skin via heat lasers, needles, or resurfacing chemicals. It’s incredibly versatile.” - Nurse Charlotte, Tissue Repair.
With its powerful combination of real-world efficacy and clinical versatility, TR Pro+ stands as a landmark product in the realm of skin care. Whether dealing with aesthetic treatments or medical procedures, TR Pro+ promises accelerated healing, reduced discomfort, and superior skin quality.
“We know so much about the active ingredient in this aftercare product — probably more than any other on the market at the moment. This isn’t just a claim; it's backed by years of research and real patient results.” - Dr Daryl Reed, Tissue Repair.
