Harnessing the power of a technique known as Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF), a revolutionary treatment that uses the patient's blood to facilitate healing and rejuvenation, is transforming aesthetics. Unlike traditional methods, we now have a solution that offers longer-lasting results and numerous applications in the cosmetic field, from under-eye filling to treating acne scars.
Understanding PRF
This revolutionary treatment opens doors for us to explore the tremendous therapeutic potential residing within our own bodies.
PRF, an advanced form of blood biostimulation therapy, has been making waves in areas like dental procedures, wound healing, and notably, cosmetic treatments. But what separates it from the familiar, yet slightly outdated, PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapies?
Dr. Gordon Ku recently joined Fresh Members for an insightful webinar to shed light on PRF's pronounced distinction and benefits.
Dr. Gordon emphasised PRF as a comprehensive regenerative tool that contains increased platelet and fibrin concentration compared to PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). This makes PRF a potent medium for healing and regeneration, and its unique release mechanisms “slowly release growth factors over time,” whereas PRP releases them quickly.
It is because of this slow release that PRF has proven its worth in regenerating fat pads and treating common aesthetic concerns. This also means that PRF has longer-lasting effects.
The Treatment
A major selling point of PRF is its ease of injection into the subcutaneous fat layer using a cannula.
One of the commonly asked question throughout the session was, “Is it okay to inject with a cannula, for areas that aren't hollow and just for rejuvenation?”
The answer is yes. Depth of injection plays a crucial role in the success of the procedure. Dr. Gordon explained, "The comfort level of the patient will tell you if you're in the right layer or not."

The Benefits
The primary advantage of PRF is that it uses your body's cells to enhance your skin's health. Since the treatment is derived from your blood, it is extremely safe. It’s also a great choice for those seeking a natural approach to skin rejuvenation:
- Collagen Production: The growth factors in PRF stimulate collagen production, which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and improves skin elasticity
- Natural Healing: Because PRF uses your own blood, there’s no risk of allergic reactions or adverse side effects. This makes it a safe and natural option
- Minimal Downtime: Unlike more invasive procedures, PRF treatments involve minimal downtime, offering a less intrusive alternative to traditional fillers
- Versatile Applications: PRF can be used to treat various skin concerns, including acne scars, dark circles under the eyes, fine lines, and overall skin rejuvenation
Even skin conditions like Rosacea, an aggravating red rash across the face, can potentially find relief with PRF treatments.
But the impact of PRF doesn't stop at skin rejuvenation and healing; it has opened up new possibilities in the realm of neurology as well. Dr. Gordon even proposed the potential use of PRF as an anti-inflammatory treatment for seizures.
But like any non-surgical cosmetic procedure, PRF should be implemented with caution. Though vascular occlusion from PRF is extremely rare, it's crucial to have protocols in place. With continued research and recent advancements in applicable techniques, the power of our own platelets holds promising potential for more treatments in the future.
Offering this innovative treatment can open up new avenues for Nurses and Doctors in the field of aesthetics. Given the rising interest in regenerative treatments, PRF sets a new standard for safe, efficient, and effective non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Undoubtedly, PRF is an exciting addition to the world of aesthetics.

The Future of Wound Healing in Aesthetics
Imagine a world where skin rejuvenates faster and wounds heal with minimal scarring.
Introducing TR Pro+; a hydrogel formulation that is changing the game in tissue repair. This isn't just another skincare product; it’s a scientifically formulated to accelerate healing, enhance skin protection, and optimise cosmetic and medical procedure outcomes.
Tissue Repair, an Australian company founded in 2015, has been making waves in medical aesthetics with its product TR Pro+. The product’s key active ingredient is beta-glucan, derived from everyday baker’s yeast. Over two decades of rigorous scientific research has gone into its ability to modulate the immune response, therefore promoting faster and healthier skin healing.

The Science: Beta-Glucan
Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide found in the cell walls of yeast, algae, bacteria, and certain grains like oats and barley. The beta-glucan used in TR Pro Plus is extracted from baker’s yeast and formulated into a hydrogel. It's a large molecule beta-glucan that penetrates the skin's epidermis and reaches the dermis, where it activates immune cells known as macrophages.
Macrophages are essentially the body’s guard cells. These immune cells recognise the beta-glucan and become activated, producing growth factors and cytokines which aid in skin healing. Unlike smaller beta-glucans, TR Pro Plus maintains its large structure, ensuring effective activation of the product.
"The cooling sensation the hydrogel gives really takes the edge off the pain during treatments like needling. It’s incredibly soothing." - Nurse Charlotte, Tissue Repair.
Beta-glucan has shown promise in closing venous leg ulcers, as evidenced by two phase-two FDA studies. These studies highlighted the gel’s ability to close chronic wounds more effectively than placebo treatments. Currently, the product is undergoing phase-three clinical trials in both Australia and the U.S., aiming to treat 600 patients across these regions.
"We received TGA approval about a month ago, and this endorsement allows us to now reach out broadly to consumers.” - Dr Daryl Reed, Tissue Repair.
Real Results
The product has been a lifesaver for patients dealing with conditions like eczema and post-surgical wounds. For instance, in skin cancer excision cases, patients reported accelerated healing with minimal inflammation when TR Pro+ was applied immediately post-procedure.
Aesthetic Procedures
TR Pro+ is designed not only for wounds but also for aesthetic procedures. Think laser resurfacing, biopsies, injectables and skin needling. “TR Pro Plus is increasingly becoming the go-to post-procedure solution. Charlotte shares, “You can use TR Pro Plus anywhere there is trauma to the skin via heat lasers, needles, or resurfacing chemicals. It’s incredibly versatile.” - Nurse Charlotte, Tissue Repair.
With its powerful combination of real-world efficacy and clinical versatility, TR Pro+ stands as a landmark product in the realm of skin care. Whether dealing with aesthetic treatments or medical procedures, TR Pro+ promises accelerated healing, reduced discomfort, and superior skin quality.
“We know so much about the active ingredient in this aftercare product — probably more than any other on the market at the moment. This isn’t just a claim; it's backed by years of research and real patient results.” - Dr Daryl Reed, Tissue Repair.
