Thrive in 2025: A Goal-Setting Guide for Cosmetic Nurses & Clinic Owners
As the calendar flips to a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on goals and lay the groundwork for a successful 2025.
Goal setting is a powerful tool for professional growth and personal fulfillment. By establishing simple, actionable goals, you can set yourself and your clinic up for sustained success.
Here’s how to start 2025 with intention and make it your most successful year yet.
The Importance of Goal Setting
When you set specific and meaningful goals, you’re more likely to turn your aspirations into actions. Goals provide direction, keep you focused, and help measure your progress, and establishing them provides direction and motivation, encouraging you to:
- Clarify Priorities: Determine what's most important in your professional and personal life
- Measure Progress: Track achievements and identify areas for improvement
- Stay Accountable: Commit to your objectives and maintain focus
Setting Goals
The SMART framework is a tried-and-true method for effective goal setting:
- Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve
- Measurable: Set criteria to track progress
- Achievable: Ensure your goals are realistic
- Relevant: Align them with your long-term vision
- Time-Bound: Establish a timeline to create urgency
Examples of professional SMART goals to utilise in your clinic:
- Increase patient retention rates by 10% over the next six months by implementing a personalised follow-up system like automated reminders and loyalty incentives
- Introduce a new cosmetic treatment by September 2025, and train all staff on these services within three months of launching
- Increase retail skincare sales by 25% by implementing product recommendations during consultations and training staff on upselling by June 2025
Examples of personal SMART goals to utilise during your planning session:
- Dedicate one day per week as a ‘no-work’ day to focus on personal interests and hobbies starting January 2025
- Schedule monthly wellness days throughout 2025 to reduce burnout and prioritise mental and physical health
- Save 5% of monthly revenue in a growth fund to reinvest in the business by the end of 2025
The Challenge of Sticking to Goals
80% of New Year's resolutions and goals fail by Feb, and sticking to them throughout the year can be hard. The secret to maintaining momentum is to structure your approach, so you don’t feel overwhelmed.
- Break Goals Down: Divide larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks. This makes progress more tangible
- Regular Check-Ins: Schedule reviews to track your progress and make adjustments as needed
- Accountability Partners: Share your goals with peers or mentors who can provide support and keep you accountable
- Celebrate Milestones: Recognise and reward yourself for achievements, no matter how small they feel
Make 2025 Your Year
Goal setting is the first step to success. By combining clear objectives with consistent effort, you can elevate both your career and personal life. Here’s to a year of growth, achievements, and more!

The Ultimate Guide to Social Media Marketing
Is your appointment calendar not as full as you'd like?
Growing your social media presence can attract new clients, but we understand it comes with its own set of challenges with the latest TGA restrictions.
Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok are excellent tools to engage potential clients who are interested in aesthetic treatments. Here’s how you can stay compliant while attracting new clients to your practice:
Emphasise Your Expertise
Build trust with potential clients by showcasing your experience. You can do this by highlighting your upskilling and education, general tips, and advice.
Promote Consults
Encourage potential clients to book consultations where you can discuss treatments in detail such as 'Schedule a personalised consultation with me,’ or ‘Book an obligation-free consultation to learn about your aesthetic options.’
Have Some Fun!
Don’t be afraid to get in front of the camera and show off your fun side. This helps build a personal connection with potential clients. Consider sharing behind-the-scenes content, personal stories showing off your love for aesthetics, and jump on all the latest dance trends!

Choosing the Right Platforms
Identify where your ideal clients are most active. Find your niche on one or two platforms initially and master them before expanding. Most of our Members start with Instagram and TikTok.
Build a Content Calendar
Consistency is key to maintaining an engaging social media presence. A content calendar helps ensure a steady flow of posts. Here’s how to create one:
- Use a spreadsheet or calendar app
- Use free tools like Meta Business Suite or Sprout Social to plan and schedule content ahead of time
Building Your Brand
Your social media should reflect your brand identity consistently. Maintain a consistent look and tone across all platforms. Tools like Canva can help create cohesive visuals.
Social Media Insights
Use analytics tools to monitor your social media performance and adjust your strategy. Track metrics like reach, engagement, clicks, and lead generation. Experiment with different content types and strategies to see what resonates best with your audience.
By consistently engaging while staying up to date with the latest TGA and AHPRA guidelines, you can transform your social media presence from carousel scrollers to loyal clients.
If you have any questions or need further assistance regarding the latest TGA guidelines, feel free to reach out to us. We are here to help.

Compliant Content for Your Clinic’s Website
Creating engaging content for your website is a great way to educate your clients, build trust, and position your clinic as a source of aesthetic knowledge. However, with AHPRA and TGA regulations strictly limiting how cosmetic treatments can be advertised, it’s essential to focus on topics that inform rather than promote.
If you’re unsure what to write about, here are some fresh, compliant blog ideas that will add value to your website without breaching regulatory guidelines.
1. Skincare Education Series
Develop a series of posts around different aspects of skincare, helping clients understand how to maintain healthy skin in between their cosmetic treatments:
- Skin Types: Guide readers in identifying their skin type and recommend general care routines suitable for each, based on the products in your clinic
- Hydration: Discuss how proper hydration affects skin health and share tips on maintaining optimal skin moisture
- Decoding Ingredients: Explain common ingredients found in over-the-counter skincare products, and how to choose the right brands based on individual skin concerns
- Common Skincare Mistakes: Share common misconceptions, like over-exfoliation or not cleansing properly, and how to correct them
- Sun Safety Beyond Summer: Sun protection is one of the most critical aspects of skincare, and there’s always more to learn. Consider sharing topics like SPF Myths and Facts, the differences between sunscreens, and the importance of sun safety all year round
- Menopause: The role of oestrogen in maintaining collagen and hydration
- Hormones & Acne: Why hormonal fluctuations cause breakouts and how to manage them
2. Running a Cosmetic Clinic
Give your clients a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run a professional and compliant aesthetic practice. You may even inspire someone to get into cosmetic nursing! Topics could include:
- A Day in the Life of a Cosmetic Nurse: Share what a typical day looks like for you
- Compliance & Safety: Explain the regulatory standards clinics must meet, and how you are staying compliant
- What to Look for in a Practitioner: Help new clients choose you over competitors!
- How to Become a Cosmetic Nurse in Australia: Outline the education, training, and certification required for aspiring injectors
3. Lifestyle & Wellness
- The Gut-Skin Connection: How diet and gut health impact the skin
- The Role of Sleep: Why "beauty sleep" is real and how clients can improve their sleep hygiene
- How Mental Health Affects Your Complexion: Ways to reduce stress for better skin health
- Self-Care Rituals: Suggest simple self-care practices that clients can incorporate into their daily routines in between their appointments
4. Myths and Misinformation in Aesthetics
There’s no shortage of misinformation in the aesthetics space. You can tackle this with topics like:
- "Glass Skin" vs. Healthy Skin: What’s Realistic? Explain how aesthetic treatments can support long-term skin health at any age
- The Truth About Natural-Looking Results: Address common concerns around treatment outcomes
- Understanding Facial Harmony: Discuss how aesthetic treatments should enhance natural features, not distort them
- Do Face Workouts Really Work? Consider educating your clients on viral trends by trying and testing them out, then sharing your experience!
5. What to Expect at Your First Consultation
Potential clients may feel nervous or unsure about what happens during a consultation. A blog breaking down the process (without mentioning specific treatments or brand names) could help choose you as their go-to provider.
- How to Prepare for a Consultation: What questions to ask, what to bring, and what to expect
- Understanding Treatment Plans: How practitioners assess suitability and set realistic expectations
Topics That Are Not Compliant
When creating content for your clinic’s website or social media, it’s important to understand what you cannot discuss under the current regulatory laws.
- You cannot reference specific brands and wording of anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers in your content. These are prescription-only medicines (S4 drugs) and cannot be advertised to the public
- AHPRA prohibits using patient reviews, before-and-after photos, and any statements that suggest guaranteed results
- You cannot discuss discounts or time-sensitive promotions for cosmetic treatments
Creating engaging content for your website can seem challenging, but it doesn’t have to be. It is a great tool to generate new clients and advertise your business through SEO and Google searches.
By focusing on these topic ideas, you can create valuable, compliant content that attracts potential clients while reinforcing trust with existing ones. Consistency is key - so start with one blog per month in your free time and build from there!

Why Medical Directors are Essential
As the med spa industry continues to grow, maintaining compliance and ensuring safe, high-quality care has never been more important. A crucial part of this framework is a medical director.
But what exactly does a medical director do? Why are they indispensable for med spas? And how do you find a good one?
What is a Medical Director?
A medical director is a licensed physician who oversees and ensures the clinical aspects of a med spa operate within regulatory standards.
Their responsibilities often include:
- Reviewing and approving treatment protocols
- Supervising or delegating clinical staff
- Ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations
- Addressing adverse events and complications when they arise
Why are Medical Directors required for med spas?
Though your med spa creates a refreshing, pampering experience for clients, the cosmetic procedures you deliver require medical oversight.
Your medical director provides the necessary clinical supervision, training, and protocols to ensure patient safety and compliance.
Regulations and Compliance
Each state has specific regulations that govern med spas. In many states, these laws dictate that certain aesthetic treatments must be performed by or under the supervision of a licensed medical professional.
Failure to comply with these requirements can lead to serious legal consequences, including fines, suspension of operations, or even criminal charges. For med spa owners, having a medical director is not just a compliance checkbox – it’s the backbone of a safe and ethical practice.
Patient Safety and Trust
Patients trust you to deliver quality care that enhances their appearance and confidence. Proper medical oversight adds a layer of accountability, helping to establish and maintain this trust.
Your medical director’s role includes creating and monitoring treatment protocols to enhance outcomes and minimize risks.
Eventually though, one of your patients may experience a complication as a result of their cosmetic treatment. It could be a burn, scar, discoloration, product problem, bruising, or something else…
When that happens, you need prompt access to a skilled, calm, and responsive medical director to support your patient.
Standardization and Training
You want your patients to experience outstanding service from your med spa. Your medical director plays a key role in this by setting treatment guidelines and training staff to ensure everyone is equipped with the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care. This standardization improves consistency and helps create a strong, reputable brand.
What goes wrong with Medical Directors?
If a medical director provides such essential service, why do so many med spa owners struggle with theirs? Common difficulties include:
- Not being able to find a capable medical director in the first place – someone who understands the unique demands of this sector
- Needing intensive support from a medical director in the set-up stage but then struggling to find enough ongoing work to justify their salary
- A medical director ‘interfering’ in other aspects of their business or just not being a good ‘fit’ for the business
The Fresh Clinics Approach
At Fresh Clinics, we understand how challenging it can be to navigate medical director requirements, especially for busy med spa owners. That’s why we’ve created a streamlined solution to connect med spas with experienced medical directors.
Here’s how we can help:

Top Aesthetic Trends to Watch in 2025
As we enter 2025, the aesthetics industry embraces several transformative trends that blend innovation, natural beauty, and holistic well-being.
Drawing insights from industry experts and recent discussions by Fresh Clinics co-founders, Dr John Holbrook and Dr John Delaney, here are the top aesthetic trends to watch this year.
1. Non-Surgical Lower Face and Jawline Enhancements
Interest in non-surgical treatments targeting the lower face, neck, and jawline is rising. These advancements offer minimally invasive procedures with natural-looking results and shorter downtime, appealing to those seeking subtle changes.
2. Regenerative Medicine
There's a growing interest in treatments that work harmoniously with the body's natural processes. Regenerative aesthetics, including therapies that stimulate collagen production and tissue regeneration, are gaining popularity. This trend aligns with the broader movement towards longevity and focuses on enhancing the body's regenerative capabilities.
3. Personalised, Science-Backed Skincare
Consumers are increasingly seeking skincare solutions backed by scientific research. Personalised skincare regimens tailored to individual needs are becoming mainstream, reflecting a shift towards evidence-based products that deliver real results.
4. Less is More
The trend of overfilled and exaggerated features is declining. A more natural aesthetic is now favoured, with treatments enhancing individual beauty rather than altering it drastically. This 'less is more' philosophy emphasises subtlety and authenticity in aesthetic procedures.
5. Treatment Stacking
Combining multiple non-surgical treatments, known as 'treatment stacking,' is set to take over 2025. This approach allows practitioners to address various aesthetic concerns simultaneously, providing comprehensive and customised results for patients.
Diversification and Data: Tips from ‘The Johns’

A recent session hosted for Fresh Members with ‘The Johns,’ was an eye-opening opportunity to learn about the importance of diversification, and leveraging data to enhance business performance.
'"Recognising that the days when you can just rely on toxin and filler to fill your book, they’re not over, but it is becoming apparent that the stronger and more resilient businesses are going to be the ones that have a suite of offerings." - Dr John Holbrook.
Patients are already spending significant amounts on their broader beauty and wellness regimes. Why shouldn't they spend a portion of that with you?
As Dr Holbrook put it, "They're buying skincare from retailers, but maybe they could be buying it from you."
Adding services like retail skincare, energy-based devices, and wellness programs not only boosts revenue but also strengthens patient loyalty. Patients are looking for a one-stop shop, and your clinic could be that space.
Dr John Delaney highlighted the power of using data to make informed business decisions in 2025: “As healthcare practitioners, we’re trained to use data to guide clinical decisions. It’s time to apply the same principle to our businesses.”
Consider following these data trends for your business in 2025:
- Client Purchase Behaviour: Understanding who is buying what and in what combination
- Revenue Analysis: Identifying which services drive the most income and where there are opportunities for upsell
- Operational Efficiency: Using data to streamline operations and improve client retention rates
As the session progressed, the conversation turned to preparing for the year ahead. Dr Delaney shared, “We’re constantly innovating to make your lives easier, from new training initiatives to advanced software systems.” One exciting development is the upcoming revamp of Fresh Clinics’ training infrastructure, designed to provide Members with even more educational tools and resources.
Ongoing Learning for Experienced Injectors
Dr Holbrook closed the session with a powerful reminder: “Your success is our success. We’re here to move mountains for you.”
With Fresh Clinics by your side, you can confidently navigate the aesthetic industry and set your clinic up for sustained growth and success in 2025.

Member Spotlight: The Injection Bar
Meet Nina, a Registered Nurse for over 20 years, dedicated Fresh Member, and Owner of The Injection Bar.
Nina started in cosmetic nursing when she worked for plastic surgeons in Canada. There, she gained hands-on experience providing treatments for post-surgical patients.
"They had patients coming from plastic surgery who also wanted aesthetic treatments like injectables. I just dabbled in the industry, but I loved it right away."
Since then, Nina has built an impressive career focused on enhancing natural beauty. Her story is proof of the power of following your passion, even when it requires stepping out of your comfort zone.
"Since opening the clinic, I’ve never looked back.”

One of Nina’s top priorities in her business is compliance. Having worked in Canada and Australia, she understands how different regulations can be across countries.
"Compliance is there for a reason - it’s for patient safety," Nina said. She also shared how Fresh Clinics’ support has been critical, particularly during the constant changes in regulations.
"There was a point where I thought I wasn’t going to open my clinic because I was so fearful of all the changes," she recalled. "But being part of Fresh Clinics’ network helped me navigate that fear. They kept me calm and made sure I was on top of the regulations."
With Fresh Clinics' support, Nina was able to systemise many aspects of her clinic to stay compliant, including infection control and hand hygiene. "Compliance is always changing, so I continue to learn and grow, ensuring my clinic stays safe and up to date."
Nina’s advice for those looking to start their aesthetic career is simple: "Soak up everything you can to become a master of your trade… Just do everything you can to become the best injector you can be. I promise you, it will pay off."
Nina’s Advice on ‘Sleighing’ the Holiday Period
As a clinic owner, Nina knows how important it is to prepare for the busy holiday season. "I start preparing around October," she says. "I focus on skincare treatments as well as injectables, and I offer a slight discount on skincare products to help boost bookings."
However, Nina also knows how essential it is to take time for herself. "I encourage every injector to take a break," she advises. "We work hard all year, and Christmas is always a big rush. I close my clinic for two to three weeks to recharge, because we deserve a break too. We give so much of ourselves to our clients, so we need to fill our own cup as well.”
With her clinic and expertise growing, Nina’s journey in aesthetics is far from over - and we’re excited to see where it takes her next.

A Fresh Milestone: Our New ‘Home’
Recently, we hit an incredible milestone at Fresh Clinics that marks an exciting new chapter in our journey.
Last week, we opened the doors to our stunning new HQ in the heart of Surry Hills, Sydney. After two years in North Sydney, our continued growth - now with over 140 amazing team members - meant it was time to find a space that could reflect who we are and where we’re headed.
At Fresh Clinics, our ‘remote first’ philosophy allows employees to work in the environment that best suits them, be it their cozy home office, a beachfront cafe, or even while traveling abroad. However, having a central office space has always been essential for nurturing our team’s cohesiveness, collaboration, and culture.
Our new Surry Hills HQ has been thoughtfully designed to reflect everything we stand for. With its light, open spaces, communal courtyard, and playful touches like gaming setups, it’s more than just an office - it’s a space to create, grow, and collaborate together.

To celebrate this milestone, we made sure our first week in the new HQ was as memorable as possible:
Nothing says "welcome home" like treats from the crew at Grumpy Donuts.

We gathered for a Guzman y Gomez lunchtime feast, enjoying our new outdoor space.

Friendly (and competitive) Street Fighter matches in our gaming zone brought out everyone’s playful side.

Green Thumb Moment: We planted herbs in the courtyard, adding our own touch of ‘Fresh.'

Share The Dignity: The team took time to give back to our community, spending the afternoon packing bags for the #itsinthebag movement - a wonderful initiative dedicated to helping vulnerable women and girls across Australia.

Dr John Delaney on the tools for a delicious BBQ lunch to finish off the week!

Another exciting addition to our space is our new clinical training space. This dedicated area will serve as a hub for education, hands-on training, and industry events, welcoming our community of aesthetic professionals to continue to grow together.

We’re incredibly proud of this milestone and grateful to every member of our team who has helped shape Fresh Clinics into what it is today.
Here’s to many more exciting moments, milestones, and growth as we settle into our beautiful new home!
